Boathouse Retreat in the Thousand Islands

This custom-designed boathouse, located in the heart of the 1000 Islands, was conceived as a functional yet understated extension of the main cottage property. The design includes two boat slips, a nearby workroom, upland living quarters, a spacious entertaining deck, and ample storage for boating gear – all while maintaining a modest scale that complements the existing home.

Working from a base footprint by the architect and slip specifications from the engineer, we refined the layout to improve flow and function – adjusting the building size, window and door placement, and internal zoning to best support seasonal use.

We selected all interior and exterior finishes, fixtures, lighting, and furnishings with durability and ease of maintenance in mind – essential for the property’s remote island location. The result is a low-maintenance, high-functioning shoreline facility that blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings while supporting the active rhythms of life on the water.
